Disc 1 Invasion and Breakout: June 6th, 1944: The time for preparations is over as the Allies launch the biggest land invasion in history. Casualties mount as the invaders gradually gain a foothold. The beachhead in Normandy is expanded and strengthened as Nazi V-1 rockets hit England and an Atlantic hurricane causes an unexpected loss of men, ships and equipment. The French cities of Cherbourg and Caen fall to the Allies. After the Nazi counter attack fails at Mortain, the Allies close on Paris. Word spreads to the people sparking a Parisian revolt. The Germans retreat. Paris is free! (60 minutes) Hot Pursuit: August 15th, 1944, the Allies land between Toulon and Cannes, France and quickly force the retreating Nazis back to the Rhine before the offensive stalls. Operation Pluto is launched to supply the Allies with fuel through 20 lines linking Britain with the French Coast. Meanswhile, the air war still rages over Britain prompting stepped-up Allied bombing runs to the heart of Germany. (60 minutes) Disc 2 Rattling the Saber: The rise of Hitler in Germany results in a Nazi Blitz Krieg that throws Europe into chaos. Soon the Battle of Britain begins. Meanwhile totalitarianism grips Imperal Japan culminating in a sneak attack on the United States at Pearl Harbor. (60 minutes) We Strike Back: America prepares for war with both Germany and Japan. Eisenhower named Supreme Allied Commander. The Allies invade North Africa forcing Field Marshall Rommel into retreat. (60 minutes) Disc 3 Hitting Them Harder: The Allies conquest of Italy gives them their first strong foothold in Europe and allows them to begin planning for an invasion of France. The countdown to D-Day has begun. (60 minutes) Unconditional Surrender: After the Nazi's failed counter-offensive during the Battle of the Bulge, the Allies cross the Rhine and overrun Germany. Hitler's bunker suicide insures the Third Reich's demise. (60 minutes) Disc 4 D-Day: June 6, 1944 marked the beginning of the end for Axis forces as a vast armada of over 7,000 ships landed massive numbers of American and British troops on the fiercely defended beaches of Normandy. Despite heavy casualties, by the end of one week the Allies have forced the Germans over 20 miles inland. (60 minutes) Battle of the Bulge: By December 1944 the Allies have swept across Europe to the threshold of Germany itself. Hitler's last great counter offensive is launched, resulting in the fiercest fighting in the whole European Theater. (60 minutes).
